Prepare
Participants learn to use a Learning Activity Checklist to evaluate and improve classroom lessons, projects, or units. Working in teams, coaches use the checklist to assess the lesson design of learning activities similar to those that are often implemented by classroom teachers. Coaches use the checklist to determine the lessons’ strengths, identify what needs improvement, and practice communication and collaboration skills by making suggestions for improvements.
Participants also collaborate to revise one of their classroom projects. This activity helps them apply the concepts they learned from the Learning Activity Checklist. As the coaches work to improve this project, they will also practice coaching other teachers in strengthening their projects, lessons, or units. When participants complete this lesson improvement process, they publish their work to a searchable database of classroom learning activities.
Participants present their improved lessons to their peers, explaining how the Learning Activity Checklist and lesson improvement process were used to revise their learning activities. Participants then have time to complete revisions or enhancements and share their work with their peers.
