Roles and Responsibilities

Peer Coaches
The following list of coaching roles is an attempt to define all the possible tasks someone might do as a technology integration coach. Coaches are not expected to do all of the things on this list.

Directions:

  1. Look over the possible roles and responsibilities that a coach might have in a school depending on the time and resources available.
  2. Determine which roles you might play at your school by checking (×) the box next to the description.
  3. Use the additional lines to add other roles not listed.

Coaching
  Assist teachers in writing/adapting standards-based, technology rich lessons, activities or units
  Share examples of student projects and ideas that teachers could use in their classroom.
  Help teachers determine an area of the curriculum to begin to integrate technology.
  Demonstrate lessons that integrate technology.
  Co-teach a lesson that integrates technology.
  Assist a teacher in a lesson that integrates technology you have planned together.
  Debrief with the participating teacher on what worked, what didn’t and how a lesson or activity might be modified in the future to be more effective.
  Provide templates students can use for completing an assignment.
  Provide step by step directions to common tasks using application software.
  Provide guidance in using the Backward Design Process for planning a unit of study.
  Model multiple ways to integrate technology in your own classroom.
  Provide guidance on managing and assessing group projects.

Organization
  Recruit teachers to participate in the coaching program.
  Create a schedule to meet with participants.
  Select planning checklists and tools to use when planning with individual teachers.
  Set goals with participating teachers of what they want to accomplish for the year.
